| THE MADDALENA ARCHIPELAGO - (La Maddalena) |
Created by the shattering of the nearby Gallura granitic mass and by the successive rise in sea level after the last glaciations, the Maddalena Archipelago is made up of four main islands close off the Gallura coast (in the Province of Sassari) - Maddalena, giving its name to the whole archipelago, Caprera, place of retirement for the great Giuseppe Garibaldi, Santo Stefano and Spargi - and three small islands close to the Straits of S. Bonifacio: Budelli, Santa Maria and Razzoli, surrounded by a scattering of characteristic islets and rocks.
The picturesque blend of landscape rocks and seascape, the splendour of the beaches, the crystalline transparency of the water, the variety and rarity of the bird life, and finally, the sumptuous richness of the seabed, rank these islands among some of the most beautiful in the whole Mediterranean.
Indeed, to protect their extraordinary environmental and historic-cultural resources the Maddalena National Park was set up in 1997.
Inhabited since prehistoric times, the archipelago was used by the Romans as a support base for ships en-route on the Tyrrhenian.
Settled over the subsequent centuries by the Pisans and Genoese, but practically deserted until the sixteenth century, it was later occupied by shepherds searching for pastureland for their flocks.
Invaded, finally, at the time of the Savoyards, by a French-Corsican expedition headed by Napoleon Bonaparte, and later, around 1887, chosen by the Italian government as a strategic supply base for its fleet, the archipelago, for which nowadays tourism is the main source of income, offers, together with its scenic beauty also places of great historic interest, such as the La Maddalena Naval Archaeology Museum and Garibaldi's house at Caprera. |

| COSTA PARADISO - (Costa Paradiso) |
The Costa Paradiso has an extension of circa 800 hectare, the territory runs circa 8 km along the beautiful Northern coast of Sardinia, which is composed by sandy beaches with little bays, rocky coast and a crystal clear still untouched, uncontaminated and conserved fauna.
